Bosch 5312 Miter Saw Review
The Bosch 5312 miter saw has a 12 inch blade and a dual bevel slide capability to give you a wider cutting range. This is a high quality commercial miter saw that is perfectly capable of getting through a heavy workload every day on site if this is what you need it for. While it can still be an ideal miter saw for working around the home too, the power and capability it possesses is ideal for bigger workloads.
When you first use the Bosch 5312 you will notice just how well designed it is. It is comfortable to operate and all of the control features are easily accessible when you are using the saw. It also has a very sturdy feel about it. Even when cutting larger pieces of material it holds steady and does not vibrate or move at all.
With a saw in this category you would expect quite a large cutting range, and you certainly get that with the Bosch 5312. It has a miter angle range of 0 to 52 degrees on the left and 0 to 60 degrees on the right. There are bevel stops at 0 degrees, 33.9 and 45 degrees too on both the left and right hand sides. You will also find meter detents on the miter angle range also, appearing at 0, 15, 22.5, 31.6 and 45 degrees on both sides, and also up to 60 degrees on the right. This helps to make your cutting more accurate and faster to set the angle also.
A 15 amp motor powers the Bosch 5312, and gives it plenty of cutting ability through a number of different materials. The no load speed of 3,800 RPM on this 12 inch blade produces some very clean cuts. The motor stays strong when cutting through large amounts of wood too, so you don’t have to worry about it jamming up half way through.
When you are working on a site, then speed is of the essence. The last thing you want to be doing is waiting for the blade to stop spinning after a cut before you can line up to cut the next piece. The Bosch 5312 has an electric brake that eliminates this problem, and allows you to perform repetitive cuts in the shortest amount of time.
“After quite a bit of time working with this saw professionally, I have found it to be the most accurate, durable, fast to use, and easy to carry of the multitude I’ve come in contact with on the job site.
The saw was accurate out of the box and has an easy system to adjust if it comes slightly off a perfect 90º. I tested the accuracy by cutting an octagon out of some scrap wood, and found the last miter to meet very well, which is rare in a sliding saw.
I’ve only adjusted the saw once, after a big fall off a deck when another carpenter caught it with a 12-foot board. After the 9 foot fall, I didn’t have the time to test the saw and make sure it was square, so I trued it instead. Other than a small crack in the handle, the saw came through the fall without any damage, and the crack doesn’t affect the function at all….” Snippet of review by “Eric”.
A heavy duty machine like the 5312 by Bosch requires a really solid base to provide the best cutting environment. The base on this model is actually 25.5 inches, and it has built in sliding extensions that will actually extend the base to measure a total of 40 inches. This is why you can rely on the 5312 to stay firm while working on larger cutting jobs.
Make no mistake, this is a big heavy miter saw, so be prepared to do some heavy lifting if you need to take it from job to job. But as far as the quality of the saw and its cutting ability, it really does perform well. Ideal for heavy usage, it feels solid and does not shudder or vibrate when cutting, giving you everything you need to make really precise cuts.
The Bosch 5312 is a very good quality miter saw and certainly worth the price.
